The Little Railroad is being designed to be the world’s largest model railroad built on a standard gauge format.
The Little Railroad is a brand-new venture that will show families and other visitors how a railroad operates; complete with passenger services served by a depot, as well as other operations conducted such a freight services, industrial services, and farming community. Families and other visitors will create memories through their participation. The railroad will be supported by a roundhouse with a back shop to maintain and restore the locomotives when not in service.
The track will be a standard gauge track. The track itself will be roughly the same size as a race track at the local county fairground. The attraction will be built and laid out so that all people can enjoy from the young, to the young at heart grandparents, and to everyone with special needs.
The Little Railroad will allow people to see all aspects of a complete railroad in operation. The vision will be to educate visitors about how railroad impact our daily lives both in the past and currently. It will also allow families to create memories as they experience the attractions offered on site.
The equipment that will be highlighted will be locomotives that weigh 50 tons or less and have a rolling stock of 45 feet or less. Utilizing this type of equipment will allow any purchased equipment to be transported by trucks over the road to the attraction site. It will also allow for us to focus on equipment from 1930-1950 because this was at a time when steam engines were being phased out and the modern diesel was coming into place to service small towns and industrial operations. However, the plan also calls to have a couple of small sized steam locomotives in minimal operation.
The Little Railroad operation will be more of a living education facility that will allow you to patriciate and see all parts of a complete railroad. From the passenger depot, visitors will board a rail car that will allow them to experience the sights, sounds, and smells of riding directly behind the locomotive and feel that they were riding in the cab with the engineer. There will be an opportunity for visitors to enter the cab of the locomotive and see the operation and even blow the horn.
Each train will be given a time table with a list of stops to be made and an assigned task to complete at each stop. Tasks may be picking up or unloading passengers at the depot, going to the farm to load grain to be delivered, heading to the rail yard to pick up freight of a log and dropping it off at sawmill in the industrial park.
To allow people to enjoy the experience there will be a placed set a side so people can relax and enjoy the day. Visitors will be able to enjoy the Hobo Pavilion, which will have a stage built using a box car. The stage will allow for performances by local entertainment, which may include a blue grass band or seasonal music. This area will have picnic tables for families to eat lunch or to host a birthday party. This area will be supported by the Hobo Shack concession stand.
